In response to President Trump’s threat to declare a national emergency in order to get his border wall, Linda Chavez is releasing the following statement:
President Trump must stop harping on the divisive and distracting issue of a border wall and instead focus on uniting and pressing issues facing the country. That starts with reopening the government and recognizing the immense value that immigrants bring to this country. While border security is important, a border wall would have no effect on flows of economic migrants, asylum seekers, and illicit drugs. President Trump should fall in line with the proud conservative tradition of welcoming immigrants to share in the American Dream. If he doesn’t, he threatens Republican electoral prospects for the long term.
