In response to President Trump’s claim that he will shut the government down if he does not receive funding for a border wall, Linda Chavez, Director for Becoming American Initiative is releasing the following statement:
President Trump’s threat to shut down part of the federal government if he doesn’t get what he wants on his border wall is irrational and harmful. Illegal immigration is at an historically low level and there is little support for a wall among Republicans or Democrats. The president should focus on fixing our real immigration problem, which is the dire need for more legal immigrants to ease the labor shortage that threatens to derail a growing economy.
