Today’s Failed House Bill Is Good for the Immigration Debate

In response to today’s failed vote in the House on the first of two immigration votes, Linda Chavez, director and spokeswoman for the Becoming American Initiative, released the following statement:

“Today the House of Representatives voted to reject the Securing America’s Future Act, a strong move against exacerbating current problems in the immigration system. This bill failed to permanently address the future of DACA recipients while drastically cutting future legal immigration by at least 25 percent. Immigrants are vital to the health of America’s economy. Their contributions need to be welcomed, not restricted. As Congress comes together to discuss a path forward, providing a clean bill with legal status for DACA recipients needs to be a priority. Protecting hardworking immigrants is in the best interest of all Americans.”
